This is my third Canon printer. I stick with Canon mainly because I got used to its software features, such as the ability to scan a document and convert it to editable text. This is an excellent printer with a lot of cool features, but it’s not perfect. It prints legal-size documents, envelopes, photos, etc., and has a paper feeder. I gave this Canon TR8540 printer four stars instead of 5 because (1) it is noisy (like all Canon printers), (2) the bottom paper tray is fragile and difficult to use (but can use the rear feed) and (3 ) the printer turns off automatically to save power and then does not turn on automatically when sending a print contrary to what is mentioned in the product description. It seems like every time I post a printout, the printer is offline, and I have to turn it on and wait a moment for it to “collect info” and resume.

Overall, Canon TR8540 is a good printer with lots of good features, but a boring paper tray and power-saving features. As for the quality/price ratio: a pity that I did not wait for the Black Friday sales. The printer is generally good, but I haven’t tried faxing yet. My complaint is that this Canon TR8540 printer has too many plastic moving parts, and some of them seem delicate. When printing photos, it is essential to use the rear feed option. Otherwise, it will say no paper was detected blah blah blah. I didn’t understand if a workaround is possible, but not all prints have to be photo paper production to be feeder exclusive like Canon did with this model.
